Personal:

I am a 27 year old girl, from Illinois (via NYC), currently living in Austin, TX.

I've been running for about 6 years, have completed 14 marathons and recently qualified for the Boston Marathon with a time of 3:34!  This was a 23 minute PR for me!

After years of running very high mileage at pretty slow paces, I decided to get serious and joined Gilbert's Gazelles training group. The BQ came 8 months later.

Hoping this blog will help add some further insight and organization to my running. :)

#1 - 2Ks at Zilker park this morning.  This is actually my favorite "speed" workout, the longer the repeat the better I tend to do.

Felt pretty good today - a bit tired on the 5th one, but thats expected.  I think that ice cream yesterday made everything better.

Warmup: 1.45 miles

1. 8:42 (6:57 pace)

2. 8:32 (6:49 pace)

3. 8:24 (6:43 pace)

4. 8:26 (6:44 pace)

5. 8:34 (6:51 pace)

Cool down: 1.35 miles at 8:19 pace

I am going to try adding in a double today. Will go and do 4 miles or so in the afternoon.

#2 - Swam 1 mile at Pure Quarry pool

#3 - Did my first double in a very long time.  Ran 4.25 miles on the trail around 3PM. Pace was pretty good - 9:00 average but I felt pretty tired.  I think this is something my body needs to get used to again.  Or maybe it was just the mile in the pool!

Met a friend for a pilates class after to get some core in.

Solid splits. I like these too, but they are a bit long. Seems to take forever to get to the turn with the first street light, and you can see Barton Springs road forever, but great once on that nice bit of downhill on the last stretch.

Funny, I am planning on doubling today as well!

Allie - I think we have all lost it. Apparently running once a day isn't enough anymore.

David - I was just not in the mood to add on this morning! Are you coming down to the trail?

From derhammer on Tue, Feb 07, 2012 at 11:21:37 from 192.156.110.40

I sure wish I worked/lived closer to downtown. Alas, I'll have to run up here during my lunch hour.

It's funny how far everything feels when you have to leave your zone. I bought some guest passes at Pure Quarry and I am about to venture up there to try their pool. It feels like I am going to Dallas!

It's actually a pretty good gym. I had bought some passes through Groupon a couple of times as it was so cheap. I am already a member of the Y and 24 hour fitness, so I did not need to join another gym. But I liked it there - they have good classes and facilities. If there was ever another Groupon I would probably purchase again.

The one I bought was on travelzoo - it was 10 visits for $15!!!! I will tell you if I see any other ones.

They also have a 1/2 off the initiation fee included in the voucher ($75 instead of $150) - I may join as long as I can also use the downtown one. I don't have a gym membership right now..just classes passes all over the place - Castle Hill, Yoga studios.

Really nice going on the 2Ks, you must have a little sadistic side to like such long intervals. Great pacing.

From Dasha on Tue, Feb 07, 2012 at 19:39:42 from 24.206.78.53

Thanks - Joe. That I definitely do have. I think I like the 2Ks more over other repeats is their is a lower quantity. Something about doing the same thing 8-10 times just isn't my thing.

Survived my first double... barely :)

Congrats on getting through the double ... and swimming and Pilates, too. Wow, I can't even remember what life was like with no kids and having all that free time, but I would probably be doing the same thing you are, and running insane mileage every week. :-)

From Dasha on Wed, Feb 08, 2012 at 10:34:23 from 66.90.166.43

David - I decided it's time to let the crazy out of the bag and log the cross training on here too! I've gotten used to not telling anyone in Gazelles since my mileage is overkill in their opinion.

I just love this stuff and could really do it all day long if I had the time!

I have to get creative once I go back to work next week - such as maybe get up at 5, run 5 miles to yoga, do yoga, run back? Maybe? Swim at lunch?

From I Just Run on Wed, Feb 08, 2012 at 10:50:48 from 67.79.11.242

I think I would call this a triple with the run - swim - run ...! You guys are all tough! I like the shorter intervals best :-)

Dasha,

Are you running Austin Livestrong or Ft Worth...I can't remember what you said?

From Dasha on Wed, Feb 08, 2012 at 12:47:36 from 166.147.76.34

IJR - I am training for Eugene. It's April 29th. :)
